Custody

We have a custody date! On the same day we will also be doing the visa interview. The other two families that are gaining custody that day will go straight from the agency to the embassy for the visa interview. Our boy is super attached to foster mom and will undoubtedly scream and cry and wail for a long time after we get him. So social worker thought we should go to the hotel first and then go to the embassy later that day. I hope we are able to calm him down.

I am happy that we have come to this point but I am dreading the separation. It will be very difficult. Everyone says it will just be a few days. And it will get better over time. His being so attached to foster mom means that he can get like that with you guys. When we went for our first meetings, he couldn’t even be away from her for 30 seconds. We have quite a journey ahead of us now.

I started packing and some of the baby things include diapers, toys, baby wash and some clothes. They said foster mom should be bringing some of his things. We can also shop while we’re there. Korean clothes are good quality so I’m looking forward to that. Also, the guessing is over. I will have him right in front of us to size the clothing properly.

I’m happy we got a flight and also a hotel room because this is such a busy time of year. For the flight we’ve got his iPad. I’m also going to pack lots of snacks and toys. Korean Air has the best service so I know the flight attendants will help us a lot. This will be interesting. We have always been that couple super annoyed by the screaming baby on the flight. The roles might be reversed now.

I’m super thankful that we will finally be bringing our baby home. This is the best Christmas gift we could have ever asked for. I pray that this transition will go at least somewhat smoothly. I pray that we can stay patient and just realize he will be going through a grieving period so we have to be super understanding.
