Everyone know the freeing effects that music has on people. Music has been especially meaningful for me throughout the adoption wait because the artists put into words sometimes the emotions I can’t express. I have some songs that I listen to repeatedly because they are sentimental and remind me of the impact that adoption has on my life, as well as my family’s life.
In my internet search for additional songs that other adoptive families have utilized for inspiration, I came across “Naleigh Moon” by Josh Kelley. I hadn’t even known that Josh and his wife Katherine Heigl adopted from South Korea. It turns out that Katherine’s sister is a Korean adoptee, so she always knew she was going to adopt. After adopting Naleigh, they adopted Adaleine through domestic adoption and then their third child came naturally. In the interview Katherine says that she prefers adoption over childbirth because the hormones make you crazy. Once you hold your child in your arms for the first time, s/he is yours. Theirs is such an inspirational story and it just makes me reflect upon how much my mindset has changed over the past few years.
I used to have such a clear picture of what I thought life should look like, but there is really no use. What are the proverbs? We make plans and God laughs. I also like Life is what happens when we’re busy making plans. Families come in so many forms with traditional, blended, adoptive, LGBQT, singles and I’m sure there are additional family structures that I’m not even aware of. I’m lucky to live in the United States where we are free to live freely in the pursuit of happiness. It says so right in the Constitution!
Anyways, back to the title of this post. These are some songs that I have enjoyed listening to during this wait to adopt. They not only have catchy melodies but the lyrics are so applicable to my life and my future dream. If anyone is actually reading this blog, please let me know what other songs are good for families who are waiting to adopt.
